Since 1952, the Dutch Student Orchestra (NSO) has been annually composed of young people who, in addition to their studies, are involved in classical music at a high level. After an intense rehearsal period, the orchestra goes on an extensive, continuous international tour through the Netherlands and abroad. For its 68th edition, we designed a brand new visual identity, campaign and all associated visual components.

Classical music often appeals to an older target audience, partly because of the designs associated with it. Reaching a younger target audience therefore remains an annual challenge for the NSO.

Since the visual identity of the NSO changes every year, we saw the opportunity to approach the designs in a more experimental way for this edition. We've pulled the design out of the (t)rusted frames and brought it to the year 2020. Modern use of color and typography focuses on a younger target audience, but doesn't lose sight of the older generation. The essence of the NSO, stronger than ever.​​​​​​​
